Abstract:

CONSIDERABLE INTEREST HAS BEEN SHOWN IN THE USE OF PHOTOGRAMMETRIC METHODS FOR OBTAINING CROSS-SECTIONS AND OTHER FORMS OF TERRAIN DATA FOR THE DETERMINATION OF EARTHWORK QUANTITIES. THIS PAPER OUTLINES SOME OF THE CURRENT AND PROPOSED METHODS AND DISCUSSES THE VARIOUS FACTORS INVOLVED. THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE ELECTRONIC COMPUTER AND OTHER INSTRUMENTATION DEVICES TO THE METHOD OF OBTAINING AND PROCESSING THE DATA IS DISCUSSED. A SUMMARY IS GIVEN OF THE CURRENT RESEARCH ACTIVITY BY THE M.I.T. PHOTOGRAMMETRY LABORATORY RELATED TO EARTHWORK DATA PROCUREMENT. /AUTHOR/
