Abstract:

THE METHODS AND PROCEDURES CURRENTLY USED BY THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS IN THE COLLECTION OF MAP DATA FOR ENGINEERING COMPUTER PROGRAMS FOR HIGHWAY PLANNING ARE OUTLINED. THE EXTRACTION AND CORRELATION OF THE NECESSARY MAP AND TEXTUAL DATA AND THE RECORDING OF THIS INFORMATION ON IBM CARDS THROUGH THE USE OF AN ELECTRONIC CO-ORDINATOGRAPH AND RECORDING SYSTEM ATTACHED TO AN IBM 526 SUMMARY PUNCH, THE PROCESSING OF THIS INFORMATION ON THE IBM 7040 COMPUTER, AND THE PLOTTING OF THE RESULTANT DATA BY THE 3500 DATAPLOTTER ARE DETAILED.
