Abstract: THE EDUCATION OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS IS DISCUSSED AND THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF EMPLOYMENT BY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS ARE GIVEN. IT IS NOTED THAT WITH EXTENDING HIGH- WAY SYSTEMS THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS CAN BE CHALLENGING AND THE SALARY SCALES ARE COMPARABLE TO PRIVATE OFFICES. HOWEVER, THE PRIVATE OFFICES OFFER MORE OPPORTUNITY FOR CREATIVE DESIGN WORK, THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS HAVE A VARIETY OF TITLES FOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT WHICH SEEM UNPROFESSIONAL, AND THE TOTAL DEMAND FOR LAND- SCAPE ARCHITECTS IS HIGHER THAN THE SUPPLY. THEREFORE HIGH- WAY DEPARTMENTS ARE HAVING SOME TROUBLE RECRUITING LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS.
