Title: BREAKAWAY SIGN TESTING, PHASE I. ABRIDGMENT
Accession Number: 00196620
Record Type: Component
Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The original design of the breakaway sign structure in use in New Jersey has not performed satisfactorily. Frequently the shock absorbing system would not operate, causing the pin connecting the sign post and the sign panel to jam instead of dropping off and separating the post and panel as desired. The design was modified by slackening the shock absorber cable and rounding the top of the post pin, and the preliminary impacts were performed. With the new design, the post did separate successfully.
