Abstract:

This paper investigates the impact of the partner, work flexibility and spatial characteristics of the residential location on the start and terminal vertices of the time-space prism. Using the stochastic frontier method, separate models are constructed for females, males and workers with different work flexibility. Data for the models was extracted from activity/travel diaries collected in The Netherlands. The results indicate that the interaction between the male and female of the same household is significant but neither symmetric nor of the same degree. Where residential location occurs in areas of higher residential densities, males and workers with flexible work timings have later terminal vertices.
