Abstract:
This collection of 14 papers is concerned with information technology, geographic information systems and artificial intelligence in transportation. Specific topics discussed include the following: nontraditional traffic monitoring systems; automated identification of traffic patterns; stochastic short-term traffic flow forecasting; transportation asset management and visualization; data collection based on Global Positioning System; evaluating highway capacity investments using a geographic information systems-based tool; visualizing and analyzing activities in an integrated space-time environment; geographic information system-based approach to identify hazardous roadway segments; wavelet-based pavement distress image edge detection; traffic signal timing using the fuzzy optimization approach; forecasting of short-term freeway volume; decision support system for predicting traffic diversion impact across transportation networks; selection and development of TransXML schemas; and forecasting short-term traffic flow.
