Abstract:

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has been maintaining a number of profilers to provide roadway roughness measurement services for various type projects. Accuracy and repeatability of the profile data had been known to be very critical in order for the users to make good use of the roughness data. Establishing protocol to check the key equipment components and operators’ capability on a systematic and routine basis are necessary to ensure accuracy and repeatability of the profile data. Over the past years, VDOT has developed comprehensive protocols in this regard to ensure the integrity of the collected data. This paper outlines the procedures VDOTs follows to calibrate and maintain the profilers.
