Abstract:

This digest summarizes the findings and conclusions of NCHRP Project 9-37, "Using Surface Energy Measurements to Select Materials for Asphalt Pavements," and presents three proposed test methods for determining surface energy. Two are test methods for determining the surface energy of asphalt binders and one is a test method for determining the surface energy of aggregates. The final report with 10 appendices is available in its entirety as NCHRP Web Document 104.
