Abstract:

This Transportation Research Record contains 21 papers on bicycles, pedestrians and developing countries. The papers on bicycles discuss the influence of pavement markings on bicycles, the economic impact of investments in bicycle facilities, intersection crossing times of bicyclists, quality of service on shared paths, conversions of wide curb lanes, and bicycle demand estimating. The papers on pedestrians examine pedestrians at signalized intersections, pedestrian signals, the safety of shared-use paths, pedestrian delay, microsimulation of pedestrian movement, pedestrian crossing facilities for continuous flow intersections, and pedestrian route choice. The developing countries papers address the following topics: an international vehicle emissions model, highway access management, shopping trip-chaining behavior at malls, and bus rapid transit institutional and regulatory options.
