Abstract:

The author begins with a discussion of why fatigue in important for the railroad industry. He looks at work hours, fatigue and accidents, as well as the sleep cycle mechanism. He presents the main results and recommendations from the Swedish TRAIN-project (TRAffic safety and INformation environment for train drivers), as well as the results from two other recent train driver studies carried out in Finland and in Australia.
