Abstract:

This article briefly discusses the two main sources of aircraft noise: the propeller-driven or jet engines and the airframe. He examines what causes the noise and what has been done to reduce the noise. He concludes that, while the number of people exposed to aircraft noise has decreased, reducing aircraft noise emissions remains a necessity.
