Abstract:

When a natural or man-made disaster occurs, unified programs can eliminate communication problems among the regional agencies involved in response and recovery operations and in coordinating relief. Computer-based virtual environments can help trainees from many agencies gain familiarity and acquire skills interactively for coordinated response to major incidents that affect large regions. This article discusses training and preparedness, multiagency cooperation, relationships and operations, new frontiers for training, simulation capabilities, and simulator enhancements.
