Abstract:

Experiences with the introduction of advanced technologies in bus transit, such as alternative fuels, demonstrate the importance of developing or refining codes, standards, and best practices before and in conjunction with the new applications in order to mitigate the risks and improve transit safety and performance. The rapid pace at which new technology is being introduced and the diversity of product choices require adherence to codes, standards, and best practices to meet expectations for vehicle performance, safety, reliability, and durability.
