The larger picture has been ignored, and research in other fields has not been used to advance the knowledge base and develop more innovative interventions. This paper presents some key areas, within the epidemiological, experimental and program/policy development, evaluative fields, that need to be addressed in order to further knowledge and understanding related to alcohol, other drugs and transportation.
