Abstract:

This paper discusses the critical importance of early and thorough historic building survey work for transportation planning. This work should be done early so that the full range of alternatives can be studied from the beginning and alignment decisions can be based on good historic resource evaluations. The author points out that this work is done with public money and should always consider the public interest.
