Abstract:
Test sections were constructed to compare sand roads stabilized with asphalt cement and with a medium curing cutback asphalt. This paper characterizes the materials and the procedures and instrumentation used for testing. Information on strain, temperature, and traffic was used to compare the two types of stabilization. Evaluation of road performance was based on present serviceability rating, rut depth, cracking, and overall surface condition. Although a final evaluation cannot be made until the design period has been exceeded, the performance of the sections so far confirms the design procedure developed.
