Tom Brigham, Statewide Planning Director for the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, welcomed conference participants and described transportation planning efforts in Alaska. Sheldon Edner, Office of Environment and Planning, Federal Highway Administration, presented a summary of two conferences that were held earlier this year (1999) on Refocusing Statewide Transportation Planning for the 21st Century. Henry Peyrebrune, Transportation Consultant, presented preliminary results from the NCHRP Synthesis Project on Multimodal Aspects of Statewide Transportation Planning.
