Abstract:
Effective equipment manipulation can lead to cost savings in vehicle purchases, maintenance, and parts inventory. "Loadgen," developed in-house by NJ Transit, is a computerized ridership allocation model that helps size train consists. It projects the number of riders boarding or departing at each station stop for each train in a proposed schedule. The total boardings projected for each train dictate the minimum number of coaches needed. The model has been validated and put to use for many short- and long-term projects at NJ Transit.
