The program includes research efforts addressing a broad range of issues associated with highway design, traffic operations, and traffic control. This article briefly reviews current efforts in the following areas: older drivers; intelligent vehicle systems; retroreflectivity of sign and pavement markings; enhanced visibility; operator duties in traffic management centers; and human factors highway safety handbook program.
