The current NCHRP Report 350 (1993) retained essentially the same criteria in metric format. Other evaluation criteria were included in these documents and are the focus of this paper. There is some question about the relative importance and the priority for these many other criteria. These criteria include structural adequacy; risk to vehicle occupants, following or adjacent traffic, pedestrians and construction workers from debris; passenger compartment deformation; and vehicle trajectory.
