Abstract:

This presentation addresses innovative funding options for the provision of transit services, highlighting the Los Angeles area's experiences. Three program concepts for improving mobility options at lower cost in Los Angeles are discussed. These are: coordinating with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services transportation services; developing a Mobility Allowance to fund alternative service delivery options in areas of lower transit demand; and implementing Smart Shuttles, which would combine flexible use of vehicles with technological improvements.
