In discussing the changing environment in public transportation management and planning, insights are offered from the experience of the Utah Transit Authority, which is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Challenges in the following seven areas are addressed: funding; market share; employee relations; cost containment; the planning process; regulation; and political issues.
