It begins with the establishment of the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) in 1962 as a means for the states to address common research needs. The following discussion provides a chronological account of the various NCHRP projects that addressed the performance evaluation of highway appurtenances, including the NCHRP Reports that were issued.
