Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This article examines airport ground access, with specific interest in the following areas: trends in U.S. ground access patterns; use of rail in Europe; components of successful European rail ground access services; users of successful rail services; comparison of airport ground access services in San Francisco and in Zurich; categorizing airport access systems; and a better way to look at airport access. In conclusion, it is stated that U.S. airport ground access planners should work to bring their systems to overall mode shares above 30%, to emulate the ridership levels attained by the most completely interconnected systems in Europe.
