Abstract:

This book considers the engineering implications of relative mean sea level change. Topics covered include: recent sea level trends; projections of continuing relative change; shoreline response to changing sea level and consequences for coastal development and uses; methods for protecting structures from erosion and flooding; and the need for new mitigation technologies. A major conclusion of the book is that "the risk of accelerated mean sea level rise is sufficiently established to warrant consideration in the planning and design of coastline facilities."
