Bad weather causes long traffic queues, where drivers travel in short distances. Various types of vehicles, driving monotony, and sudden braking of any vehicle within the queue can create dangerous traffic situations, some involving dozens of vehicles. This paper deals with the differences between the brake characteristics of different vehicles and their influence on column (queue) driving. The number of vehicles which can be safely driven in a column is also dealt with. The necessary driver education is discussed.
