Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: In June and September 1990, the Transportation Research Board conducted a series of workshops on methods of forecasting civil aviation activity. The purpose was to examine methods and practices used by the Federal Aviation Administration and others and to identify ways in which the reliability and utility of forecast products could be improved. This is the report on the first workshop which was held on June 11 and addressed forecasting general aviation activity. In brief, the workshop found that: (1) Traditional forecasting models are valuable tools, and FAA should continue to use them in projecting future general aviation activity; (2) alternative forecasting methods can also be used to advantage; and (3) the quality and utility of general aviation data and surveys could be improved in several ways, such as revising the General Aviation Activity and Avionics Survey form, gathering activity information from aircraft operators rather than registered owners, etc.
