Abstract:

Home origin-destination travel surveys for the purpose of developing and/or calibrating trip generation models have historically been conducted as home interview surveys. As the cost of performing home interviews has increased, innovative and cost effective methods to collect these data have been developed. This paper compares three different home origin-destination survey data collection methods: home interview, mail-out/mail-back, and telephone interview. The mail-out/mail-back and telephone interview methods will be compared using home origin-destination survey data collected during the comprehensive regional travel survey conducted in Amarillo, Texas in 1990.
