Title: AASHTO FLEXIBLE PAVEMENT DESIGN METHOD: FACT OR FICTION?

Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: In 1986 AASHTO published the "AASHTO Guide for Design of Pavement Structures." This new publication incorporates the original development of the Road Test data combined with some extensions applying theoretical and empirical models. A review of this document, the superseded interim guides, technical literature, and the original Road Test reports revealed a number of opportunities for reexamining the Road Test results. These opportunities included an evaluation of the patterns of performance contained in the raw data, an examination of the mathematical formulation of the performance and design equations, and a probabilistic analysis of the Road Test results, treating the layer coefficient as a distributed random variable instead of as a uniquely determined number.
