Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This paper describes the Federal Outdoor Impact Laboratory (FOIL), a new laboratory for evaluating roadside safety hardware. The FOIL has been designed and constructed to solve many of the roadside safety problems of the 1980's and beyond. As primarily a small-car crash test facility, it is used to research the higher probability of injury for small-car occupants. As a side impact test facility, it is used to develop side-impact technology and appropriate roadside solutions.
