Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This synthesis will be of interest to maintenance engineers, traffic engineers, materials engineers, and others concerned with pavement-marking materials. Information is presented on the various types of traffic-marking materials being used by states to obtain extended service life. Enormous quantities of paint, thermoplastics, glass beads, raised markers, and other materials are used every year to mark the highways of the United States. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the need for markings, preparation of the pavement surface, and the various types of paint, thermoplastic, thermosets, tapes, and raised markers in current use.
