Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: This paper is a history of private-sector involvement in the provision of roadways in Colorado. Major early developments are sketched to provide background for what has occurred since 1975. Financial and political problems associated with unmet present demand, land use planning for future growth and development, and quality-of-life issues are discussed. Three ways in which the private sector is involved in the provision of roadways are described: (a) private contributions to finance interchanges, (b) governmental associations to provide major transportation improvements, and (c) involvement of private interests with local governments to build major highways without the participation of state or federal government.
