The University of Wisconsin-Transportation Policy Studies Institute established under this contract, administers policy research projects that address key transportation issues and recruits qualified researchers from the university system to perform research. The organization of the Institute is described, as well as the relationship between the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and the University. The process of identifying research needs is described, and the progress during the first year is reviewed. The results of the workshops held by the Institute have been applied in decision making and policy formulation by WisDOT. Research topics that have been pursued since the first year are listed, and it is noted that the current emphasis in the program is on implementation.
