Abstract:

The Port Economic Impact Kit is an effective and easy-to-use kit to assisst small and medium size ports in the conduct of economic impact studies which measure the economic contribution of a port to the local economy and can help the port to demonstrate its effect on the economy. Three types of activities can be analyzed: port industry activities, local port user activities, and port capital spending. For each set of activities, the economic effects can be separated into 3 categories: direct, indirect, and induced. The PortKit model, the microcomputer model developed for the Kit, is also described.
