Digital Copy: Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: The Northwest Technology Transfer Center, which is part of the Rural Technical Assistance Program (RTAP), focuses on a coordinated technology transfer program responsive to local rural transportation agencies. Emphasis is placed on technical information for bridges, roads, and rural public transportation in Washington and Idaho. The basic activities of the Center include a newsletter, technical literature, workshops, evaluations, and the maintenance of a mailing list. Additional activities are discussed including its most important activity - the van program. The latter provides personal technology transfer to users at their place of work. Details of this effort are described. Specific observations that have been drawn from the operation of the van program are listed. Good materials, skillful people, and a receptive audience in need of technical training at low costs have contributed to the success of the van program.
