Title:

A Microsimulation Approach to Access the Environmental Impacts of Different Ramp Metering Scenarios; A Case Study of Eisenhower Expressway in Chicago

Accession Number:

Record Type:

Component

Abstract:

This study applies an integration of traffic simulation and emissions estimation to compare different ramp metering scenarios for the Eisenhower Expressway in the city of Chicago and, based on the achieved results, provides a better ramp metering management system in terms of emissions and energy consumption. While there have been studies assessing the operational performance of ramp metering, there are relatively few that have compared the environmental impact of different ramp metering strategies such as this study does.
