Title: Overcoming Barriers to Cycling: Exploring Influence Factors of Cyclists’ Preference in Free-Floating Bikesharing

Abstract: In order to explore the characteristics and influencing factors of free-floating bike sharing (FFBS) among urban residents, this paper analyzed the characteristics of FFBS based on a survey of 30401 valid questionnaires in Jiangsu Province of China, and then the multinomial logit model is applied to explore the influencing factors of FFBS using, and illustrate the mechanism of shared bicycle use. The results show that : (1) FFBS are mainly used for urban commuting and attending school, and the travel time coincides with the urban rush-hour, as well as accepted by users in short distance travel. (2) The level of education, income level are important factors that affect FFBS use; both the vehicle malfunction is not handled promptly and faultiness policy are important reason to curb the use of FFBS. The results of this study can provide support for the operation of enterprises. Also, it provides the basis for the formulation of urban transportation policies.
