Methods described include those focused on enhancing capacity such as contraflow, route and ramp closures, turn restrictions, signal timing modifications, and manual traffic control; and methods focused on modifying demand including traveler information, incentives, and phased evacuation orders. Infrastructure enhancements can also improve resilience and evacuation operations. The resilience benefits from a proposed connector near Tampa, Florida are described. Finally, the author briefly touches upon the impacts that shared ride transportation, autonomous vehicles, and connected vehicles may have on evacuations.
