Abstract:

In transportation, the results of new research can make systems operate safer and more efficiently, can introduce new technology, or can navigate ways to fund, finance, and secure necessary legislative and public support. Research departments can gain exposure for transportation findings and can advance other technology transfer initiatives by incorporating proven public relations procedures, strategies, and tactics. An effective public relations plan includes: (1) Establishing realistic goals; (2) Developing a sound strategy; (3) Identifying target audiences; (4) Communicating via media relations, website, and social media; and (5) Measuring the results.
