Abstract:

This issue contains seventeen papers concerning highway capacity and quality of service. Specific topics covered are as follows: risk taking behaviors at signalized intersections; relationship of lane width to capacity; computing travel time of a roundabout corridor; effects of on-street parking maneuvers; and effects of an upstream traffic signal on a downstream intersection. Additional topics include: planning-level methodology for freeway facilities; delay at unsignalized intersections; a German approach to freeway facility evaluation; and calibrating VISSIM for the German Highway Capacity Manual. This issue also covers traffic capacity at unsignalized crosswalks; commercial truck speed versus distance-grade curves; speed-flow models for basic freeway segments; freeway passenger car equivalents for congested conditions; and the treatment of trucks for analysis of freeway capacity. Further topics include: methodologies for analyzing freeway ramp weaving; the treatment of trucks in roundabout analyses; and scenarios of freeway reliability analysis.
