Flow Number test, High Temperature Indirect Tensile (HT/IDT) Strength test and Asphalt Pavement Analyzer (APA) test were conducted on P-401 mixture to estimate the rut resistance. Dynamic modulus and phase angle were also measured using Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT). Three types of P-401 mixtures and two asphalt binders were investigated. Recent research indicates that distribution of aggregate particles is correlated with the rutting performance of the asphalt concrete. Dominant Aggregate Size Range (DASR) - Interstitial Component (IC) method was developed in Florida to evaluate permanent deformation resistance of highway asphalt mixture. In this study, DASR-IC method was used on P-401 mixture. Laboratory testing result shows modified binder PG 76-22 provides better resistance to rutting than PG 64-22 binder. A strong correlation is observed between HT/IDT results and the other two test methods. DASR porosity and Disruption Factor (DF) were identified to be suitable criteria to estimate rut resistance of P-401 mixture.
