Availability: Transportation Research Board Business Office 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: Existing research implies that spatial access to jobs has different effects on the employment outcomes of different income groups, but no research has explicitly tested the difference. This research examines to what extent job accessibility affects employment status and commute time of different income groups in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Results show that job accessibility has no significant correlation with employment status of the lowest income group with household income less than $25,000 or with that of the medium-to-high income group with household income no less than $75,000. On the other hand, job accessibility constantly has negative association with commuting distance. Overall, medium-to-low income households can benefit more from the policies that aim to improve job accessibility.
