Availability: Transportation Research Board Business Office 500 Fifth Street, NW Abstract: Recent studies demonstrate the importance of computational precision of user equilibrium traffic assignment solutions for scenario comparisons. There are cases when one is interested not only in a precise equilibrium solution to specific inputs, but also in precise evaluation of the sensitivity of the equilibrium solution to input perturbation. An example for this need is when traffic assignment is hierarchically embedded in a model for network design and/or road pricing. Another example may be related to analyses of input uncertainties. The main purpose of this paper is to present a method for efficient and precise computations of equilibrium derivatives. Numerical experiments on a medium-sized network are used to demonstrate the precision of computed equilibrium derivatives using the proposed method.
