Recycling of old building structures as construction materials is a viable alternative. The objectives of this research study are to investigate the feasibility of using Recycled Building Materials in asphalt pavement mixes. Two types of Recycled Building Materials, Recycled Bricks (RB) and Recycled Concrete (RC) were used as coarse aggregates in Hot Mix Asphalt of Low Volume Roads in Egypt. A total of nine hot asphalt mixtures were formed by replacing certain percent of the coarse virgin aggregates by crushed bricks and concrete. The prepared mixtures were tested in Marshall, immersion, indirect tensile, and creep tests to investigate the effect of recycled materials on mixture properties and identify the optimum percentage of recycled materials. The findings in this project support the hypothesis that both RC and RB can be used effectively as a coarse aggregate in HMA when appropriate quality control techniques are utilized. Based on the information obtained in this study, the recycled building materials could be used as partial replacement of coarse virgin aggregates in HMA without significant reduction in its performance.
