Blurb URL: Availability: Find a library where document is available Abstract: Several recurrent observations informed the development of the research themes: Supply chains are dynamic; Individual experiences in getting data about supply chains are varied; To some in the public sector, freight data and supply chain data are synonymous, when in reality they are very different; and While mode of transportation is critical for public-sector understanding of supply chains since it is directly associated with infrastructure, mode is not a direct concern for the private-sector operating supply chains. The themes that evolved include the following: Identifying applications of supply chain information for public-sector freight transportation planning and performance measurement; Identifying case studies of how interviews with individual supply chain professionals and firms can provide a basis for understanding the nexus between supply chain and state or local transportation systems; Making use of existing, although nontraditional, freight and logistics data for understanding supply chains; and Understanding and incorporating warehousing, a critical component of transportation within the supply chain context which is currently not considered in public-sector activities.
