Title: A Study on Passenger Flow at the Platform Area of Lo Wu Metro Station at the Border
Accession Number: 01366062
Record Type: Component
Abstract: This paper presents a study concerning passenger flow in a metro station between Hong Kong and Mainland China by performing field survey and theoretical analysis. The field survey performed in this study focuses on the flow pattern as a result of the presence of turnstiles on the platform. Flow capacities of the turnstiles are formulized. Two different kinds of turnstiles with different service time features were identified. Concerning the difference between the time features of different kinds of turnstiles, a dynamic queuing model was built to explore the level-of-service that the platform of the metro station could provide in front of the turnstiles. The proposed model with its embedded formulations for pedestrian route choice can also take into account of the influence of the queue length. An illustrating example concerning different queuing patterns has been employed to demonstrate the promising potential use of the model.
