Title: The division method of waiting area on island platform at Metro Station
Accession Number: 01372734
Record Type: Component
Abstract: This paper proposes a new division method of the waiting area on the island platform at a Metro station, which can improve the evaluation of the level of service (LOS) at such stations and the accuracy of simulation software. The paper first analyzes the waiting behavior of passengers and the relationship between waiting passenger behavior and regional function on the platform, and clears the shape of the waiting area as a rectangle on the basis of the distribution pattern of passengers on the platform. Then by means of video identification and field observations, the paper presents the notion that the size of the waiting area varies with the different number of waiting passengers. Thus it establishes and validates the mathematical models on length and width of the single waiting area, concluding that the waiting area width model is in the form of Logarithmic function and the length model in the form of power function. Finally, it shows the practicality of the new method in LOS evaluation and simulation accuracy. The result verifies that the new-proposed method can truly reflect the feelings of waiting passengers and provide significant basis for platform operation management.
