The manual addresses the factors affecting chip performance, discusses design and construction considerations, and identifies procedures for selecting the appropriate chip seal materials. The report also contains recommended test methods for use in the design and quality control of chip seals. The test methods are presented in AASHTO format to facilitate incorporation into the AASHTO "Standard Specifications for Transportation Materials and Methods of Sampling and Testing." The material contained in the report should be of immediate interest to state maintenance engineers and others involved in the maintenance and preservation of flexible pavements.
