Abstract:

On-street parking is an important component of the parking system. Due to its physical and operational characteristics, it can significantly impact traffic performance and safety. The purpose of this paper is to give a qualitative analysis in the influence of on-street parking on the travel time. The data on the travel time of motor vehicles moving in the road sections with on-street parking are gathered by observers. A non-parametric hazard based model is proposed to analyze the influential factors related to on-street parking including effective lane width, numbers of parking maneuvers, occupancy and so on. The results reflect the fact that the on-street parking impacts the travel time of vehicles significantly. In addition, various factors can modify travel time in different degrees and the model can be used to estimate the travel time under assumed conditions. This paper is hoped to help improve the traffic programme and the management of on-street parking.
