Abstract:

This paper proposes a tabu search heuristic for the Group Allocation Problem 2 (GAP) in transshipment container terminals, an operational problem of dynamically allocating storage blocks to groups of containers in order to arrange the transshipment container flows between vessels. An integer programming model is developed for the problem formulation with the objective of minimizing operational costs including travel cost between quay and yard and handling cost inside the yard resulted from reallocation. Due to the computational complexity of the problem, a tabu search heuristic algorithm is proposed to obtain near optimal solutions.
